I wanted to start this blog to help people. Over the past half a year I have been helping myself and my family get healthy by meal planning. I asked on my local facebook mom group for suggestions on where to go for recipes for healthy choices. Some were ok, but one has stuck with me over the past 6 months and I have pretty much been cooking from her site just about every night, with the exception of some Sundays, holidays and days when we have leftovers.
Gina Homolka is the creator of skinnytaste.com and the author of The Skinnytaste Cookbook, which you can find in stores EVERYWHERE! I absolutely LOVE every single recipe I have tried and so does my family. Not only are they SKINNY, she also includes the Weight Watchers Points on each recipe as well as the calorie count and servings. She aims for clean, whole foods and does a great job at making these recipes taste AMAZING. I have modeled my home meal planning after Gina’s skinny taste and have personally lost close to 20lbs over the past 6 months and have kept it off…without ANY exercise. Imagine what would happen if I added in some exercise!
Over the next few months, I would love to share my meal planning and grocery shopping. I usually meal plan on Sunday, post it to our board in the house and then shop on Monday. It is time consuming, looking for new things to try or relying on old favorites, but that is why, in our home, we have implemented a rating system for each meal, so mom knows which meal to cook again and which meal to file away as a dud. While I do not really ENJOY meal planning, and some days I
despise do not really enjoy cooking, I know my family likes to see what is on the “menu” for the day and it really does make it easier on ME to know what we are eating each day. And when we hit little speed bumps in our life, meals are already planned, food is bought, and recipes are at hand to make.
So, starting tomorrow, I will attempt to post my meal plans with grocery list and amount I spend for two weeks with the hopes I can help some of you out there!
